Crossfit Athletes Attempt the US Navy Physical Readiness Test

The United States Navy requires that all its servicemen and women pass the Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT) twice a year. The PRT consists of a series of physical fitness tests designed to evaluate strength, endurance, and overall physical readiness. Crossfit is a popular fitness regimen that prepares athletes for high-intensity exercise, making it a natural fit for aspiring Navy sailors. In this article, we report on the experiences of several Crossfit athletes who attempted the US Navy PRT.

Crossfit is a program based on constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. It incorporates exercises such as running, swimming, rowing, weightlifting, and gymnastics, making it an excellent way to improve physical fitness for the PRT. A group of Crossfit enthusiasts from a gym in San Diego, California, decided to put their training to the test by attempting the US Navy PRT.

The PRT consists of three events: a timed 1.5-mile run, maximum push-ups, and maximum curl-ups (sit-ups) in two minutes. The athletes were given the standard requirements that Navy service members must pass to remain in the military. The minimum requirements for a 21-year-old male are 46 push-ups, 51 curl-ups, and a 12:15 time for the 1.5-mile run.

The Crossfit athletes were confident in their abilities, having trained extensively for the challenges that awaited them. They began with the push-up portion of the test, and many were able to perform well above the minimum requirements. Next came the curl-ups, and again, the Crossfit athletes were able to exceed the minimum standards. Finally, it was time for the 1.5-mile run, a grueling test of endurance.

The athletes set out at a brisk pace, but soon found themselves struggling to maintain their speed. The PRT run is a challenging event, with many servicemen and women struggling to complete it within the allotted time. Despite their training, the Crossfit athletes were no exception, feeling the strain of the run within the first mile.

However, the Crossfit athletes were able to push through the pain and finish the race within the time limit, with some even scoring excellent times. They found that their Crossfit training had prepared them well, giving them the endurance and mental toughness they needed to succeed.

In conclusion, Crossfit is an excellent program for anyone looking to improve their physical fitness, especially for those preparing for the US Navy PRT.
